CYANS Aims

The Children and Young People’s Allergy Network Scotland (CYANS), was created to facilitate and improve the lives of paediatric allergic patients across Scotland. CYANS focuses its work on achieving the following specific aims:

  • To improve access to allergy care for all children and young people in Scotland as locally as possible.
  • To facilitate the creation of a dedicated service for young people in their transition to adult services
  • To identify the educational and training needs of all health care professionals involved, developing appropriate training solutions
  • To develop optimal ways of communication for all people and professionals.
  • To listen to the needs of children, young people and their families
  • To find the best way to measure and audit improvements in allergy service provision

CYANS workstreams can be summarised as follows:

  • Develop a model of high quality allergy care
  • Review and identify the most suitable guidelines and patient pathways for use in paediatric allergy care in Scotland
  • Identify who is delivering allergy services in Scotland
  • Identify a suitable database for audit and research purposes
  • Assess and identify the need for education and training of health care professionals involved in the delivery of allergy services, and develop appropriate training programmes
  • Develop high quality and reliable allergy information which is easily accessible to all
  • Establish effective relationships with all those involved in CYANS to ensure effective communication and working partnerships

As a network where paediatric allergic patients and their families, as well as  health care professionals and the voluntary sector work together, we can get a happier and healthier life for children and young people with allergies in Scotland.
